2025 in Review
The past year marked a significant shift in Atlassian’s platform strategy, with a strong focus on AI, bundled offerings, and unified service management.
One of the most impactful changes was the broad rollout of Rovo, Atlassian’s AI solution. Previously offered as a separate paid product, Rovo is now included for all at no additional cost. Atlassian has been rolling it out to customers in the Enterprise, Premium, and Standard editions of Jira, Jira Service Management, and Confluence.
Atlassian’s strategy was validated and acclaimed by industry analysts. In 2025, Atlassian was named a Leader in the Forrester Wave™ for DevOps Platforms, as well as a Leader in the Forrester Wave™ for Enterprise Service Management. These recognitions underline Atlassian’s growing maturity as a platform that connects development, IT operations, and business teams.
Atlassian introduced several important changes in their licenses and packages, bundling applications into functional collections.
- Jira Service Management is no longer sold as a standalone product. Instead, Atlassian launched the Service Collection, which bundles the Jira Service Management, Assets, and Customer Service Management applications. This new application focuses on customer support use cases and comes with AI capabilities built in. Existing JSM customers automatically receive the Service Collection at no additional cost.
- In addition, Atlassian launched the Teamwork Collection, combining Jira, Confluence, Loom, and additional Rovo credits. This bundles all teamwork-focussed products into a single, discounted bundle.
- For organizations focused on strategic alignment, the Strategy Collection was introduced, bundling Focus, Jira Align, and Talent.
- Finally, Atlassian announced it would discontinue Opsgenie as a standalone application. Its core incident alerting and on-call capabilities are now fully integrated into Jira Service Management, reinforcing Atlassian’s vision of a unified ITSM platform. Existing Opsgenie customers are required to migrate to Jira Service Management by April 2027.
What to Expect in 2026
Looking ahead to 2026, Atlassian is continuing to invest heavily in Rovo, its flagship AI. Planned enhancements include additional connectors, improved search capabilities (including Assets), and dedicated desktop and mobile experiences. Early access programs are already available.
Other notable developments expected in 2026 include:
- The end of sales for new data center subscriptions on March 30. See below for what this might mean for you.
- The introduction of Bitbucket Hybrid licenses in mid 2026 for customers unable to fully move to the cloud.
- The launch of Atlassian Isolated Cloud, a single-tenant, private cloud environment designed for organizations with strict regulatory and data sensitivity requirements.
Brainsquare will be attending Team ’26 in Anaheim, Atlassian’s flagship event in the US.

Preparing for the Data Center End-of-life
Atlassian has confirmed that their data center products will reach end of life on March 28, 2029. Customers are expected to transition away from on-premise data center deployments to cloud installations, which Atlassian names “Atlassian Ascend”.
From March 30, 2026, onward, new data center subscriptions will no longer be available for purchase. Existing customers will still be able to renew and upgrade their licenses until end of life.
Bitbucket is the notable exception: Atlassian will offer a Hybrid Bitbucket license that provides access to both Bitbucket Data Center and Bitbucket Cloud, offering additional flexibility for customers with specific constraints.
While 2029 may still seem far away, experience shows that migrations of this scale require careful planning. The cloud may be the right destination for many organizations, but not for all. Regulatory requirements, data residency, cost considerations, and integration complexity all play a role.
Brainsquare is ready to help customers evaluate their options early. We support cost and ROI analysis, assess cloud readiness, explore alternative setups where needed, and guide customers through secure, well-planned migrations. We do this always with a focus on long-term value rather than a simple lift-and-shift.
If you’d like to discuss your situation or explore possible paths forward, feel free to reach out for a conversation.
